Dutch Ambassador visits Arvesta

Innovations, Sustainability and Internationalisation at the heart of the visit

Landen, 4 February 2025 - Arvesta, the full-service partner of Belgian agriculture and horticulture, had a very special visitor: the Dutch Ambassador in Belgium, Brechje Schwachöfer, visited the modern Aveve Zaden facility in Landen today together with our CEO Niek Depoorter.

The morning visit focused on Arvesta's innovations and sustainability efforts, as well as the company's international appeal. Arvesta is known for its 40 strong brands, including for example the new Nuverta, the newly opened protein plant in Mettet that produces vegetable proteins from local raw materials such as yellow peas.

In addition, through its brands such as Hortiplan and Van der Hoeven, Arvesta is a global player in high-tech greenhouse horticulture. The company provides highly innovative solutions for greenhouse horticulture projects worldwide, including in the United States, Japan and Australia.

The Ambassador was also given information and a tour of Arvesta's Aveve Zaden production site. Aveve Zaden is a seed production site in Landen that is a leader in agricultural seeds and certified seed grains. It is in close contact with leading European seed breeders to always draw from the best genetic material for seeds. Thanks to extensive research at its own testing station, Aveve Zaden can offer its customers top varieties with high quality guarantees. Innovative drone technology, for example, is used to objectively and efficiently capture data on these seeds and crops at the various trial fields in Landen. This data is useful for farmers and growers and helps them increase their yields.

‘We are delighted with Ambassador Schwachöfer's visit and the open exchange of information on challenges and opportunities in the agricultural sector,’ said Niek Depoorter, CEO of Arvesta. ‘We believe in collaborations with numerous partners and consider them important to find solutions that provide benefits for the total food chain from farmer to consumer, who thereby gets healthy and sustainable food on their plates.’

Ambassador Brechje Schwachöfer added: ‘Companies like Arvesta play a crucial role in making agriculture more sustainable by working with local farmers and knowledge institutions to find solutions for sustainable and resilient food production. The close cross-border cooperation between Belgium and the Netherlands is very important in this respect. Our agriculture has many strengths, but also faces several challenges (climate change, complex regulations, scarcity of agricultural land and labour ....). Thanks to cross-border cooperation and innovation, we can find real solutions that are both economically and ecologically interesting.’
